We recently got to speak with our one of our graduate students Kris Stumer, who has really made strides in the industry. We got to hear all about his journey so far and with his determination and positive attitude we know he will continue to achieve great things. Thank you for sharing with us Kris!
Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you got involved in the Fitness Industry?
My name is Kris Stumer and I’m from Ipswich and now working on the Sunshine Coast.
I’m 28, now a father of 2! And I’m a personal trainer specializing in movement.
What have you been up to since graduating/what are you up to at the moment?
Well…I graduated from Onfit in 2007 and had the privilege of being educated and mentored by Jeff Cook. I started immediately after graduating with Goodlife Health Clubs at Booval, and quickly found my feet. After 3 years there I was lucky to have the opportunity to move to Goodlife, Caloundra and have been there for 2 years!
During my time here I discovered some amazing training tools, and really carved a niche for myself. I fell in love with TRX, ViPR, kettlebells and Trigger point therapy. And I love offering something unique absolutely accessible to everyone and anyone!
Earlier last year I was offered an apprentice role as a presenter for the Australian Institute of Kettlebells, and have enjoyed every minute of it! I’m even in the middle of writing my own course, which I will be presenting to all personal trainers next year!!
I’m also working at a wellness studio which offers chiropractic services and naturopathy, who are great allies to have in terms of exercise prescription and wellbeing advice.
Tell us about the course you did with Onfit
We talk so much about value in our industry these days, and during my cert 3 & 4 I definitely got more than I bargained for…in a good way!
The content was in depth, clear and very thorough. On top of that, Jeff always made sure we practiced what we preach and never missed a beat with any questions or advice we threw at him.
I can honestly say I’ve never come across anything in my career that I wasn’t prepared for, or didn’t know how to approach.
How has the transition into becoming a personal trainer changed your life?
My journey has taken me a long way from where I was, at times out of my comfort zone yet granted me with opportunities I have only dreamed of!
If someone would have told me 6 years ago, when I was working in a slaughterhouse (yes! True story, but a long one) that I would be where I am today. I would have laughed so hard, and said it couldn’t be done. Yet here I am, and I’ve never looked back!
If anyone wanted to find out more about you and/or your business, where can they go?
My business page is Think Functional Fitness, I’m on Facebook, you can also check out AIK and keep an eye out for my upcoming course!!
Do you have any advice to those wishing to get involved in fitness and the fitness industry?
If you want to help people and make a difference in so many lives, do it! And make sure it’s for that reason, passion not profit!!
Take one step forward and start from there, I remember my first meeting with Onfit I was scared as hell! But I can honestly it changed my life, and knowing I’ve changed the lives of others along the way to this point I wish I’d done it sooner!
We wish you all the best Kris and are looking forward to hearing all about your sucesses in 2014!
We love hearing from our students, so send us an email at admin@onfit.com.au or send us a message on Facebook and let us know what you have been upto.
