We asked Rob to share more about his work, life & goals for the future…
Where did your passion for health and fitness begin?
I didn’t really know I was very interested in health and fitness until high school. I’d always played sport and competed in athletics, cross country etc. but didn’t really know that this was something that I had a real passion for until high school where I began researching more for myself. I was always a really tall skinny kid growing up (at 16 I was about 34kg lighter than I am now, at the same height), so I had a real desire to gain muscle to feel better about myself. This started my passion for lifting weights and balancing this with basketball and athletics really helped with my confidence. So I guess it wasn’t really until I was 16 that I realised that this was something that I really enjoyed and wanted to try and pursue a career in.
What were you doing before working at Onfit?
Before working at Onfit I was studying and graduated with my Bachelor of Exercise and Movement Science at QUT and I was working for Snap Fitness and Renegade part time.
What does a typical day at Onfit involve for you?
A typical day at Onfit starts out with answering student emails and marking quizzes. After this, you will usually find me marking assessments (either the Cert IV in Fitness or Cert IV in Weight Management), as well as answering student phone calls and emails throughout the day as well. Depending on what projects we have at the time, I will usually be working on creating content for new courses or to upgrade current ones as well.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
I have a couple of favourite parts, I really enjoy marking practicals and taking the face to face practical assessment days as well as helping students with the questions they have. I really enjoy guiding people and helping them learn the content to be excellent trainers.
What’s a passion of yours outside health/fitness?
I pretty much live and breathe health and fitness, however, I do always enjoy getting some time to play Xbox and unwind.
Who is your idol/ someone you look up to?
My idol, I would have to say is Vince Carter. I’ve always been a huge fan of his, and very jealous of his athleticism. I have always aspired to be able to do even half of the dunks which he is able to do with ease. Plus I have always wanted to be able to play basketball with the amount of ease in which he does, it always looks effortless.
What’s an achievement/some you’re proud of, in 2018?
In 2018 one thing which I would have to say I am most proud of is buying my first house.
What are you looking forward to in 2019?
Continuing to keep doing what we are doing at Onfit and keep working hard to create the best student experience. I’m excited to see the new areas which we move into in the future.
