Where did your passion for health and fitness begin?

At school I was always active. Let’s just say I was the kid that spent more time at sport than what I did in the class. I finished school and basically ended all sport and fitness ambitions. I leaned towards an unhealthy lifestyle which resulted in weight gain and stress. I think this is where the passion for health and fitness re-emerged. I decided that the need to change, I liked sports etc at school so why not help other people out with their fitness goals?

What were you doing before working at Onfit?

Numerous jobs. Throughout my working life I have been a labourer, AIN, PT, Pt Manager, Event Supervisor and now a Trainer and Assessor at Onfit. I still balance a little PT, Event Supervising as well as working at Onfit, just to keep me on my toes![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”12px”][vc_column_text]

What does a typical day at Onfit involve for you?

I have found that I don’t have a typical day at Onfit. The day usually starts with a coffee, I check out what assessments have been submitted, then start marking (from Cert III in Fitness and Cert IV Allied Health Assistance).  I always have a few snacks to keep me going whilst marking assessments. I’ll also answer student questions over email and phone, so every day is different.

I enjoy getting to know students more when I help them and and I find the most important detail for my work day is to enjoy what i’m doing and l have a laugh.

What’s your favourite part of your job?yours outside health/ yours outside health

The team environment. Even though we have different departments (education, career advisors, admin, compliance) we all laugh and have fun. With the students it is helping with “that light bulb moment”. Sometimes I find that my explanations become more like a story. For those that have the pleasure of speaking with me, you’ll know exactly what I mean!

What’s a passion of yours outside health/fitness?

This is kind of hard, health and fitness is my passion. If I was to choose something I would say it is I enjoy travelling to different areas within Australia. When you think about it you can travel 2 days out of Brisbane and be in the centre of Queensland. If in Europe try to think how many different countries you would have passed through? Oh and when I am brain dead the PS4 always helps.

Who is your idol/ someone you look up to?

Matt Fraser, Tia Clare Toomey, Kara Saunders (CrossFit). The strength, flexibility and the ability to move is awesome. When you watch documentaries about these athletes it is amazing the amount of enthusiasm, motivation that they exude.

What’s an achievement of yours/something you’re proud of, in 2018?

This year has been challenging. I tore my MCL in my knee and spent 3 months in a knee brace with very little movement. I have now finish my rehab and not quite back to previous strength but definitely heading the right direction.

What are you looking forward to in 2019?

I have a family trip planned throughout outback Queensland, visiting many little country towns. Should be interesting.. as well as continuing to see Josh (my son) grow into a young man.
