From Global Fitness Leadership to Men’s Mental Health Advocacy: The Journey of Peter Winmill

Meet Peter Winmill: Trainer, Assessor, and Mental Health Advocate

Peter Winmill is one of our dedicated Trainers and Assessors. He has spent decades in the fitness industry, working with clients across the globe and mentoring the next generation of coaches. Beyond his professional achievements, Peter has turned his own personal challenges into a mission: supporting men’s mental health through real conversation, coaching, and connection.

For over 20 years, Peter Winmill has lived and breathed the fitness industry. Beginning his career as a personal trainer, he travelled the world, training clients across Europe, Indonesia, and Australia, before stepping into leadership roles that shaped the careers of hundreds of future fitness professionals. His years as an Area Manager for one of Australia’s largest fitness RTOs cemented his reputation as a mentor, a leader, and someone deeply committed to helping people change their lives.

But behind the success, Peter understood something many never see, even the strongest-looking men often carry invisible battles.

Growing up with severe acne and later managing coeliac disease, Peter struggled with confidence, identity, and the pressure to appear “tough” and unaffected. Like many men, he learned early to bottle things up, stay busy, and cope in silence.

Everything shifted during a midlife crisis that forced him to confront what he had spent years avoiding. This became the turning point that led him to begin studying psychology and exploring deeper pathways to healing.

Men Off The Meds: A Lifeline for Men Who Suffer Quietly

From that journey, Peter created Men Off The Meds, a one-on-one coaching platform dedicated to helping men rebuild their physical and mental wellbeing without relying solely on medication. Through training, nutrition guidance, mindset coaching, and real conversations, he supports men who feel lost or overwhelmed, often the ones who appear “fine” on the outside.

Peter combines that with his charity work with WNOW – When No One’s Watching, a social connection group that combines exercise, connection and conversation for men.

Peter’s work is especially important now.

The holiday season is the toughest time of year for many people.

Christmas can amplify loneliness, financial stress, family tension, broken relationships, and the heavy expectation to “hold it all together.” Depression increases. Substance use rises. Many people retreat into silence, convincing themselves they don’t want to be a burden.

Peter knows that silence kills, and connection saves.

His message is simple and powerful:
You don’t have to suffer quietly. Support is strength, not weakness.

Bringing His Experience to Onfit

Today, Peter also brings his global PT background, two decades of industry leadership, and psychological training to Onfit Training College. Whether supporting students, mentoring aspiring coaches, or advocating for mental health in the fitness community, he brings a level of depth and compassion shaped by real lived experience.

With two decades of experience behind him, Peter knows firsthand that the health and wellness industry is full of surprising turns and incredible opportunities. His advice for anyone beginning their journey is to stay curious, stay open, and allow experiences, not expectations, to guide you toward the area you’re meant to pursue.
