We’re thrilled to shine this month’s Student Spotlight on Jack Withers, one of our outstanding students who has impressed us all with his determination, resilience, and passion for fitness.
Onfit Trainer and Assessor, Tanisha, nominated him for the award, sharing that he’s been “extremely passionate about completing his courses” and that his drive to overcome challenges has truly stood out.
“Jack has shown incredible dedication to his studies,” Tanisha said. “He’s pushed beyond his comfort zone, continued his learning journey, and his personal growth deserves recognition.”
Jack has not only stayed focused on his studies but has also chosen to continue his education with the Certificate IV in Fitness, setting his sights on his goal of becoming a Personal Trainer.
Meet Jack
I’m 28 years old, I live in Port Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and I love working out, watching movies, and playing football (Australian Rules Football to be precise). I love music, and am currently teaching myself how to play guitar. I also have a part time Job at Bunnings which I have had for over 10 years.
How did you passion for fitness start?
I started working out when I was 15 years old training with the set of free weights I have at my house. This continued until I took a break from exercise at 17 years old due to a lack of interest at the time. But then after about 3-5 months, I got right back into it, predominately training with long distance running, mixed with weight training, and obtained a gym membership the year after. It wasn’t until shortly afterwards I completed a Certificate 1 in Fitness that I decided I wanted to be a PT. I was really hesitant to take the first step, but since starting, I’ve never looked back.
Can you share some highlights and hurdles from your time studying with us?
My study journey has been a whirlwind of an experience. My favourite part of it has definitely been the learning process as it has provided me with the basis of knowledge I now proudly possess. In terms of challenges, staying committed to the course stands out to me as there have been several moments where I’ve been so overwhelmed I felt like throwing in the towel, but thanks to the incredible moral support I received from my tutor and my family, I realised it was all a part of the process and that all qualified trainers have to face the same trials. Ever since I got to the point of obtaining my Certificate III, I’ve come to realise it was worth every second.
What advice would you give others starting their fitness studies?
Expect to have to face challenges and obstacles along the way of your journey, but do NOT be discouraged. The best thing you can do is to stay committed, believe in your ability to achieve great feats, and have hope, even when the mountain seems too steep to climb. I promise you, it’s more than worth it. On top of that, don’t be too proud or too shy to seek support in those difficult times.
What’s next for you, Jack?
My number 1 priority as of now is to complete my Certificate IV so I can finally fulfill my dreams of becoming a Qualified Personal Trainer. Other than that, I may consider doing some short courses after it’s all said and done, and maybe. Just Maybe, consider going forward to complete a higher level of study in the same field should I have any other ambitions I wish to pursue.
Congratulations, Jack! Graduating with your Certificate III in Fitness is an incredible achievement and a true testament to your dedication and hard work. We’re excited to see you continue your journey as you work toward your Certificate IV and take the next steps toward a successful career as a Personal Trainer. Your passion and persistence are an inspiration, and we can’t wait to see where your fitness journey takes you next!
