Perfectionists Die With Their Dreams
By Dave Nixon
If you’re waiting for the perfect conditions, the perfect time, or when you will feel ready, then you will never start.
Perfectionists die with their dreams.
And ready isn’t a feeling.
It’s a decision.
People undervalue imperfect action for directionally correct goals.
After working with more than 10 thousand people, there is 1 consistent theme that I have seen amongst those that chase quick wins and those that actually win in the long run.
I call the first group slaves and the second group students.
Slaves work based on motivation.
Students work based on direction.
Slaves think in instant change.
Students think in intergenerational change.
Slaves seek transactions.
Students seek transformations.
Slaves yo-yo.
Students chip away.
And in 10 years’ time, the slaves end up in the same position, or worse than when they started.
As for the students…
Not only have they added more years to their life, they’ve added more life to their years.
What’s probably most fascinating is that both groups have an intergenerational impact.
Whether they mean to or not.
So remember:
It’s not perfection that you’re after.
It’s progress.
Keep going.
Keep showing up.
And own your attitude.
You’re going to make it.
