It’s already hard. Don’t make it harder.
By Dave Nixon
It’s true, you know.
Pressure is a privilege.
Billie Jean King said it.
More like Billie Jean Queen.
Anyway, I first thought it was just a nice sentiment.
And then I felt it.
The pressure.
Like real pressure.
Responsibility for a family, employees, clients, the community.
And to a large extent, the world and my soul.
The generations to come.
And then it hit me in the face.
I used to dream of this pressure.
When I was lonely.
Broke.
Homeless.
At rock bottom, this was what I dreamed of.
I was so busy struggling that I almost missed the life I was living.
But at the time of dreaming, I didn’t know it was pressure I was asking for.
When you ask God for strength, he gives you weights.
That’s what you’re dealing with, baby.
Some big ol’ lumpy ass weights.
So, if you want what you say you want, you gotta pick them up.
There’s no way around it.
It’s what you asked for.
Exactly what you asked for.
So no whinging.
No shortcuts.
Just work.
Work that you dreamed of.
Work that, once you get started, turns into play.
Kind of like life, really…
Funny that.
So, get to work.
The best thing you can do for those around you is work on you.
Calm mind.
Strong body.
For good.
Is the greatest gift you can give.
