You’re in the business of opportunity

And you have no idea what it looks like

I was doomscrolling.

Playing the addictive dopamine version of Russian roulette where, with each scroll, you die a little on the inside.

I was probably searching for something.

I don’t know what it was, but it found me.

Words intended for someone else that spoke directly to me.

“It is the business of opportunity.

It’s a business of being ready for the moment you don’t even know is coming.

You have no idea what your moment is.

It’s going to present itself when you least expect it.

And the question is, will you be ready for it?”

A reel of a Netflix show with Kevin Hart offering something short and straight.

Kinda like him, I guess.

But this is the thing…

We are all in the business of opportunity.

We are all preparing, or not, for the opportunity we can’t predict.

My career has been built on unpredictable fleeting moments that would have passed had I of been fixated on needing to know the outcome.

I mean, just the other day, I had someone who doesn’t interact with any of my content reach out about running a retreat in Finland.

Huh?

Wot?

Ah, yeah!

Let’s see how we can make that work.

That wasn’t on my bingo card.

I wasn’t preparing for that.

But I was preparing.

Your moment is coming.

If you mistake every bus that drives past as your only option, you will miss the one that’s perfect for you.

Don’t focus on the opportunity.

Focus on being ready for it.

Study.

Train.

Love.

Create.

I heard Rick Rubin say, “My only goal is to make something I like.”

I don’t care what business you’re in.

Every day, you go to work preparing.

Because deep down, you don’t really know what your opportunity looks like.

But I promise you, it is looking for the version of you that has your head down in your art.

It’s not searching for soulless slop.

It’s searching for something real.

There’s a reason it comes when you least expect it.

Be connected to everything but attached to nothing.

The work you do is important.

Don’t pretend like it’s not.

Because every time you do, every time you downplay it, you not only let yourself down but everyone else who benefits from your offer to the world.

Especially the ones that haven’t met you yet.

Keep going. So they can find you.

You know what to do.
