Throughout your studies, you’ll work through 8 Learning Topics in the following order and build practical knowledge and confidence in a range of subject areas relating to your role as a Gym and Group Exercise Instructor:
TOPIC 1 – FITNESS FOUNDATIONS Introduction into how the body works, movement and direction terms, how to find reliable info on anatomy and exercise, how to choose the right exercises for different people, and a first look at coaching techniques.

TOPIC 2 – HEALTH & FITNESS ASSESSMENTS Introduction into the complaints handling process, client screening fundamentals, how to spot health risks, take basic body and health measurements, set goals, run fitness assessments, know when to refer to other health pros, and give advice on exercise programs.

TOPIC 3 – INDIVIDUAL PROGRAMMING & EXERCISE Key components of health and fitness, plan for personalised exercise sessions, choose the right types of exercises, build gym and personalised-based programs, coach clients one-on-one, monitor and modify sessions to keep clients on track.

SIS40221 Certificate IV in Fitness

Throughout your studies, you’ll work through 11 Learning Topics in the following order and build practical knowledge and confidence in a range of subject areas relating to your role as a Personal Trainer:
TOPIC 1 – CLIENT SERVICE ESSENTIALS How to connect with all kinds of clients, set clear boundaries, communicate well, handle tricky situations, understand your legal and ethical responsibilities, and work confidently in a diverse environment.

TOPIC 2 – FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT ASSESSMENT Introduction to postural and movement assessments, determine client performance based on assessment protocols, provide exercise recommendations to improve posture and movement quality and instruct clients in proposed recommendations.

TOPIC 3 – PERSONAL TRAINING FOUNDATIONS Determine goals for general client populations, review contraindications and medical recommendations from Allied Health Professionals, document client profiles, write personalised programs and session plans for indoor and outdoor sessions, instruct personalised sessions and evaluate and modify sessions according to client performance and contraindications and knowledge and practical application of fundamental exercise science principles.

TOPIC 4 – SUPPORT HEALTHY NUTRITION Establish client exercise-nutrition goals and expectations for advice, revision of the Australian Dietary Guidelines, roles of qualified Allied Health Professionals and referrals, interpret food label information, gather information on client’s daily eating patterns, advise on healthy eating, food preparation and cooking examples and give nutritional advice within Scope of Practice.

TOPIC 5 – SUPPORT BEHAVIOUR CHANGE Determine client exercise history, behaviours and barriers, assist client to plan for change using evidence-based techniques, instruct clients in goal setting techniques, review and monitor client progress towards changed behaviours and goals and adjust techniques and goals in collaboration with clients.

TOPIC 6 – ADOLESCENT AND ONLINE TRAINING

Select appropriate fitness tests for adolescent clients, conduct pre-screening system for young people, determine goals for adolescent client populations, review contraindications and medical recommendations from AHPs, document client profile, write personalized programs and session plans based on stage of development and fitness capabilities, instruct personalised and group sessions online and evaluate and modify online sessions according to client performance and contraindications.

Technology, equipment needs and safety risk requirements for online programming, sessions plans and exercises that are suited for the online environment, online instructional techniques, evaluate and modify online session delivery.

TOPIC 7 – TRAINING OLDER CLIENTS Determine goals for older client populations, review contraindications and medical recommendations from AHPs, document client profile and needs for exercise to promote healthy ageing, write personalised programs and session plans that include strength, injury prevention and balance exercises to prevent falls, instruct personalized sessions and evaluate and modify sessions according to client performance and contraindications.

TOPIC 8 – BUSINESS ESSENTIALS Identify and evaluate a business idea for viability, document business goals, compliance requirements, product and service mix, target audience, marketing plan, risk management strategy, basic financial management strategy, current and emerging industry trends and competitor and market analysis, review personal factors and present a business plan.

TOPIC 10 – PT SALES ESSENTIALS Establish the needs, preferences and expectations of your potential clients, promote personal training products and services, overcome objections and facilitate successful sales presentations for your future PT business.

TOPIC 11 – PROVIDE CPR This unit is to be completed externally through a Nationally recognised provider of your choice, at an additional cost. Once completed, simply supply Onfit with your Statement of Attainment, and we’ll Credit Transfer the unit into your qualification.
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

The SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness is an entry level qualification, there are no entry requirements to enrol in this qualification. Entry Requirements for the SIS40221 Certificate IV in Fitness include the completion of units contained within the SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness.

By enrolling into the Certificate III & IV in Fitness bundle, all entry requirements will be met within the bundle.

Additionally, copies of your current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Statements of Attainment are required to commence the Certificate IV in Fitness. 

You’ll have a maximum 12-month course duration per course, for your Certificate III & IV in Fitness studies.
