Fitness professionals have the opportunity to be at the forefront of the fitness-wellness continuum, and become partners in the care of people who want to find alternative and holistic treatments.
With the growing popularity of integrative and holistic approaches to health, we will start to see fitness programming trends that incorporate mindfulness. For example, HIIT workouts could be combined with meditation techniques or deep breathing exercises.
Further, recovery programs that have typically been reserved for elite athletes could be used to provide pain relief, decrease inflammation and improve mobility for individuals limited in their ability to move, let alone exercise.
Essentially, we’ll be seeing more programming that focuses on the individual experience, thereby of appeal to far greater audiences than ever before.
Fitness for the Elderly
Many of those seeking help in the medical-fitness-wellness continuum will be Baby Boomers. This ageing population will be more willing to seek out fitness professionals who can address the chronic issues they may be facing with pain relief, as well as mindfulness exercises that can enhance wellbeing.
On the other end of the ‘elderly’ scale, are those who are still healthy and striving to stay fit and active. They’re looking to strength training, high-intensity interval training, and team sports and activities.
